MEET DR. EMILY WILLIAMS
I’m so glad you’re here
You’re in the right place if you often think to yourself…
“If I’d tried harder, this wouldn’t have happened.”
“What’s wrong with me?”
“I’ll never be good enough.”
“Perfection is the standard.”
Change is possible. You don’t have to do this alone.
Meet Emily Williams, Psy.D.
I grew up in the American South, with cultural values like respecting your elders, never talking about “unpleasant” things, and avoidance of conflict. Manners can be lovely, but here’s the thing: if you grew up in an environment where no one ever talked about problems or feelings, or they made fun of you and shut you down if you did, the damage can be far-reaching.
As an early career psychologist working in college counseling centers, I was shocked by the number of young adults with severe anxiety and depression, alcohol misuse, eating disorders, and untreated attention issues. A subset of these folks blamed themselves for everything and struggled to trust anyone (including themselves). They lacked the necessary skills to tolerate emotions and effectively manage conflict. What was going on?
Emotional abuse is as devastating as physical or sexual abuse, especially on a developing brain.
As a trauma therapist with 20+ years of experience, I’m committed to addressing and healing past emotional scars while also navigating current communication and boundary challenges. My treatment approach is not a bandaid—we’re rewiring the brain to create neural networks for transformation in your relationships and business. In a world where emotional abuse is minimized and often misunderstood, I help others reclaim their lives and embrace joy.
